Liptov belongs to the most visited regions of Slovakia with amazing mountains, caves and views. We decided to explore the surroundings of Ružomberok and Liptovský Mikuláš to find out the most beautiful sights of Liptov

If you want to refresh a little bit while staing in Liptov, in nice weather you might enjoy the dam Liptovská Mara, in colder weather there is lot of thermal pools and aquaparks. If you travel with children I would recommend Tatralandia with plenty of attractions and animation programme, if you want to enjoy relaxing and healthy spa, you might prefer thermal pools of Bešeňová, Lúčky, or Liptovský Ján. For romantic night with saunas I personally liked the most hotel Permon in Podbanské. If you plan your trip ahead, you might get a great deal on discounts in liptov wellness.
Tourism and natural beuty of Liptov
Liptov region is popular during summer thanks to nice mountains Západné Tatry, Nízke Tatry, Veľká Fatra, Chočské vrchy, Kvačianska dolina, Prosiecka dolina and also interesting caves in Demänovská dolina. If you like to explore Slovak folklore and cultural heritage, there is lot of open-air museums like Vlkolínec, or Pribylina. We tried to discover the history of this region in Havránok, ancient Celtic village above lake Liptovská Mara with extraordinary wooden architecture and awesome views.
Liptov skiing
During the winter Liptov region gets crowdy in popular skiing resorts Jasná, Chopok, or Malinô Brdo near Ružomberok. You can find all the relevant ski information about the ski resorts Liptov.
Liptovský Mikuláš
Nice historical centrum with view on High Tatras might be enjoyed with sweet desert or icecream in Caffe Venorika on the main plaza with modern fountain. If you come here in a larger group, do not miss the rafting, paintball, or other adrenalin activities.
Where to eat in Liptov region?
Even though the gastro services in Slovakia are not generally exceptional, there are many places with great food. Most of the local dishes are traditional like cheese dumplings, pasty and . We loved and local soups (garlic, cabbage..) in Koliba u dobrého pastiera in Ružomberok (big restaurant in the forrest). We enjoyed Homemade cheese dumplings or nut/poppy seed pasty next to Liptovská Mara in koliba Villa Gréta.
If you are in a hurry, you might go to sheep farm Krajinka and get some take-away cheese, milk products or fresh pastry. If you travel with kids, they will enjoy the farm animals walking around the restaurant.

There is lot of nice accomodation options in Liptov from simple chalets to luxurious hotels. We stayed in small villa Vilka Cibulka near Liptovská Mara so we could enjoy the grill in the garden 😉
